A general word about the book: This collection, the second in a pair of Sailor Jerry tattoo stencil books, includes 80 pages of images drawn by the iconic tattoo artist Sailor Jerry. The images are copies of vintage tattoo flash, not photos or colored images, and many were drawn over half a century ago (I point that out since a number of reviewers of this and the previous volume complained about the quality of the images, as if the book was supposed to have glossy photos of Kat von D in it or something). Sailor Jerry was one of the people who formalized many of the images and styles inherited from the prior hundred and fifty years of Western tattooing. So he was instrumental in kickstarting modern American tattooing as we know it - his student Don Hardy (Jersey Shore t-shirt guy), who drew a great deal from him, is one of the most widely recognizable tattoo artists ever. So, while much of contemporary tattooing has moved away from certain aspects of his style, few artists can honestly say they've completely escaped his influence. If only for that reason, his work is an important frame of reference; but much of it has also resisted the changing tides of style, and many of his pieces look just as compelling today as they did in 1950.More specific to this volume: Compared to the first book, this one isn't much help if you're looking for Sailor Jerry's most famous stuff (read: that stuff branded on shoes and rum bottles). But this volume is worth springing for if you're trying to see the less widely known side of SJ's work. It includes some of his strangest and most creative pieces, and the crude humor he's known for is in top form here. This volume is also a bit more diverse in terms of sizing and the like, so if you're looking for tiny filler pieces or oddly shaped stuff, this is a big asset. I'd also recommend it to someone who is looking for a more comprehensive selection: there are about eight variations on his classic panther and naval frigate pieces, just to give two examples. Overall though, it's weaker as a collection than the first, so I'd mostly recommend it to people who have the first volume already, are tattoo history buffs, or are just looking for something a bit off the beaten path.In case you're searching for specific pieces, some of his more iconic ones included here are: the snake ensnaring a panther, a snake crawling out of a skull's eye socket, a winged skull, and the "death before dishonor" eagle. Unsurprisingly, there are also a boatload of anchors, roses, scantily-clad women, daggers, and Navy/military pieces.

After putting off getting tattooed for a few years I decided to get a Norman Collins dagger and heart on my forearm because of how iconic and classic the designs he created are. This book is full of tattoo stencils ranging in subject matter from dragons to pinups to military iconography and much more. If you are a fan of tattoos, an aspiring tattoo artist or just someone who appreciates art this book is for you. I have traced and painted many designs from this book and turn to it for inspiration when making new drawings.

My son specifically asked me to look for a Sailor Jerry book. I'm sending him this one for his birthday and I think he will really like it as he was in the Navy. It has tons of tattoo drawings by Sailor Jerry in it. Anyone who likes tattoos will be delighted with this book.

Hands down Sailor Jerry set the standard for what you think of as American traditional tattoo style

it's good just what I expected came on time and was priced right over all a good deal.
